Spoke with Rudy about The slides - he said he was sending Them on to you After every output of work, I feel I must treat myself with some form of either anarchy, debauchery, lust (which is impossible currently) etc. [2 suffice?] This week-end with good wine, a lot of bad T.V., a play tonight. Spoke with Mary. She's taking some Time to paint. She was supposed to come into L.A., but I never heard anymore. I'm competing for a film project That would take me to Nigeria for a couple of weeks. Aug 8 1983 Dear David Driskell Hi, Things are going well for me this Summer. Sold two pieces which enabled me to devote all my time to the work I was doing. I had so hoped you would be able to see the large pieces while (?) I had them up in My Studio. Perhaps there will be Still time. I will be here definately (?) until the first week of Sept. C. Suraldrs (?) is giving me a November upstairs show which I am real happy about and Diane Brown (?) is looking at the work.

7. scheduling concern. Didn't want to do it, but he asked in such a way (said it would mean a lot to him) that I felt I couldn't gracefully decline - especially since I want to support him and want all to go smoothly in the Dept. Know Jeff Meiglick (?) wants the job (he told me so this summer), but don't intend to take any flack from anyone regarding this. Oh. almost forgot - yes, I too am very sorry about Richard not being promoted, but wish he would be more realistic about the whole thing.

and they sill didn't have contracts! Greg then stood up and said he was tired of people complaining and asking for money (Gladys had asked about something relating to ordering books for the play) and so forth. Then Sykes spoke about being tired of people (Greg) intensity etc., etc. Then Sykes and Greg got into what I understand was pretty close to a shouting match.

Leonard's son is getting married.

Desphande is on leave in Mississippi this year (she's still in the library), the Fusons are in Hawaii for 2 years. About 29 people have left or were not renewed (or are on leave?)
