Gentlemen,
We subscriber, agent [[strikethrough ?]] of Miller & Whitney, in estimating, the valor of their proprty, in the patent machine for cleaning Cotton (Commonly called the [Saw Gin] it influenced by the following consideration - ; That by the 8th Sec: of the Constitution United States, Congress shall have pairs to promate the progress of Science and [strikethrough = the] useful arts by securing for limited times, to antoher & inventions, [strikethrough = for] the exclusive right their respective writings & discoveries". In persuance of thes power our Representatives in the National Government, from consideration, both of, policy & justice, have, declared that individuals, who will use their exertions to require their [?] of property shall enjoy an exclusive, right to the same for 14 years -
