Friend Kennicott
We sent the Arborvitaes to [illegible] Wash some 3 days & since We should have sent them last week but we had a cold storm that prevented our diging. The Arborvitaes are stockly & well rooted & we think they will suit. We were entirely sold out on Magnolias before your order was recd tho we tried to keep a few doz We sent you the best quality of white peonies we have tho we have a plenty of better looking ones. These had been twice transfered & cant fail to live & grow [underlined] right [underlined] along [underlined]. Next fall if left in our grounds they would have averaged 1 to 2 feet high. We have a plenty of white peonies ^ that rise last spring that made even a larger growth last year. The trees have all been [illegible] [illegible] except the [illegible] Bush & Blacks & yellow [illegible].

The Beech is perfectly hardy but we never could make much out of it some way it will not grow. The Scarlet Maple starts slow but grows rapidly after is has been cultivated 2 years
We Hope the plants will all prove satisfactory.
You western men all seem to be afraid of the Hemlock. Don't they suceed well when smal plants are obtained from Eastern Nurseries We used to think they would but Hemlock from the woods are difficult to manage
The large Hemlock we send you is one our boys picked up for you. We should cut off 1 or more of the last years growth & shade the first season.
Very truly S. T. Kelsey & Co.
