Chicago, Ill. April 14, 1858 Messrs. Kennicott Pirs -- I was absent from the office I when your parkage arrived, being confined to the house with sore throat, so was unable to pay the bearer, but the enclosed order will be cashed at the Doemocrat Office any time whether I am there or not as I have advised Mr. Reed, the cashier, on the subject. The package has not been opened yet but I have no doubt everything will be correct as per invocie. I did not wish to dela acknowledging the receipt so have taken the earliest opportunity of mailing. With regard to your very kind invitation to visit your place, my wife joins me in thanking you, but the fact is we are blessed [blessed in underlined] with so many country friends and relatives whom we have to visit, and have but little time for holidays, that this is almost impossible to keep present engagements and visit all round in the course of the season, but I should like very much to see your nursery and if ever a favorable opportunity presents itself I shall gladly avail myself of the invitation. Yours to J. F. Garside
