Your letter of Nov. 28 th[underlined] containing circular is rec'd, I will forward you by mail a specimen of the mouse described with the greatest pleasure, They are common upon the prairie bottoms, I have not had much opportunity to studay[strikethrough] study their habits, as it has been but a short time since I first saw them, I believe they are less as-[strikethrough] active and more sluggish then other species of its kind, I have noticed several kinds of mice and moles that seem to differ from any I have seen elsewhere, I will send you specimens as

I collect them, I have but little experience in this line, and any directions you can give me about preserving birds and animals will be gratefuly rec'd, I have some leisure and if I can serve you in ay way please command me, I will try and forward the above specmen next mail,
I suppose the Institution with which you are connected continues to collect climatological statistics, - If desired I will keep a Register, and forward it, in such manner as shall be directed, I have no Barometer but can keep the temperature, amount of rain and snow direction of wind &c.. I am located on the Neosho river in about latitude 38 longitude 96,
