The abbreviations in the second to last line read "I.C.R.R." for Illinois Central Rail Road, where geologist John Wells Foster served briefly in the Land Department. This letter was written in 1858, as John Wells Foster took over the role of Land Commissioner for the railroad from John Wilson in November 1858.
