Wednesday Sept

My dear Robert.

Your letter to my Father was received last evening. & as he is now absent from home attending the state fair at Landworthy I take the liberty to write you a few lines - I have been something of an invalid for the last week, & am not yet able to do much but lounge about - read a little &c -

My Father left home last Monday & will not probably return home before the last of the week - Charly went to Landworthy & back yesterday - saw his Grandfather a few moments - and thought he was enjoying himself finely - I was in hopes you would have attended the fair, &

returned home with my Father - & made us a visit - I hear of you almost every where but here. I hope you are not waiting for a formal invitation to visit us - It is a long time since you were here - and we should all be delighted to have a visit from yourself - & sisters - Will you not come this fall - before commencing your Snakes business again? Charly is trying to be farmer, but it is hard work. The season has been bad. fruits have also failed. and every thing looks discouraging to me, who always looks on the dark side - We have had a large family of workmen all Summer - which has made a great deal of work - & care for me - but we have now sent most of them off - and I hope for a quiet winter.

Mr Pease, is still attending his business in the city - but returns home every day - Carrie has not been very well through the Summer - but she is now better - and is learning to cook - & do general house work - which I consider a first-rate medicine for young ladies -

Our flowers have not bloomed as well as usual this season - Still we have had enough to supply our city friends with numberless boquets - This morning - a gardner from the city came out to see if I could give him a few flowers – for a wedding said he had cut every thing from his own grounds - I told him to take

all he could find & he did so - Soon after he left, two ladies came & asked for a white rose for a copse I was afraid I should not be able to find one - but succeeded in getting one, & some beautiful buds on Freddies grass Charly - & Carrie have gone to the city this afternoon if here, would join with me in urging you to visit us this fall - Remember me to your Father & brothers - and sisters - It would give me pleasure to see them all here at any time when they can make it convenient to visit us - Write soon - & tell me we may expect a visit from you this fall -

Yours truly M E. Pease
