"Breckenridge" Red River M. T. Tuesday Aug 18^th

Dear folk at Home

I have been here nearly
a week, collecting new fishes etc and having
a good time - Cavalier's train is delayed a
couple of days as I hear by a man from
St Cloud - I go to day to the place where
the train will cross Red River there Ill camp
and wait till it comes up which will
probably be tomorrow - If Cavalier is sure
sure he will send down some carts to Crow
wing I'll go to Pembina. if there is any
danger of his failing to do this Ill stay
in this region - I can hire a gude at Pembina
to bring me through for $30. in case of accident.

The Indians have been a little troublesome
by stealing - But in coming ^back by Crow wing Ill be
accompanied by Chippeway half Breeds and go only
through Chippeway land - While going to Pembina
though we pass Sioux land we will be
over one hundred men - too many to be
troubled -

Ill have some rich jokes to relate of
[illegible] Indian scrapes - the boys here have got
sold splendidly several times.
