Status: Needs Review

Chicago June 18th 1857

Robt Kennicott Esq.

My Dear Robert

Your kind and welcome
letter was recd this morn and I hasten to answer.

I am preparing to Start for Arkansas. I leave
the Garden City to night or tomorrow morning

It has done nothing but rain for the
last week and I think that Mud City
would be more appropriate than Garden. Etc.

I have been very busy Since my arrival. have
been absent on Several Small cruises. but
I am Sorry to Say have not made many
valuable discoveries of Specimens - perhaps
Arkansas will afford a better field.

We have been anxiously expecting the
comet - but I guess it is a myth - there are
no news here - no fights or fiers lately.

I presume I Shall See you at Anna,
as I pass through - I shall not be able
to stop long - if at all. You must
present my regards to Col Ashley &
family - Mr Phillips and all inquiring
