Mus leucopus Rich. Not seen in a living state. The half eaten carcase is often met with

Mus _____? Body about 1 3/4 in. long though the tail is longer than that of the mus= =culus and also larger. Color of the tail reddish brown. Whole animal reddishly lighter than the house mouse. Should this be a desirable specimen to see I will either send a minute description or loan you the specimen

[written] fur is twice the length of A. rufescens while no medial longitudinal furrow occurs on the incisors as in the latter species. Otherwise our specimens agree tolerably well with DeKay's (poor) descriptions of both the latter species

Among our specimens is one which is shorter, thicker & some= =what darker colored on the back than the others, but I have not decided to consider it distinct

Appended to one of the State Geological Reports in a list of animals met with in the state prepared by Dr. Sager the state Zoologist. I find in this list the following names of animals mammals which I have not seen

Vespertilio arcuatus Say S'orex parvus Say Spermophilus Hoodii F. Guv. Sciurus carolinensis Linn.
