two other girls were discovered
in the act of getting away over
the drying ground wall. when
called to her work Ditchman refused
to do any work using very foul
language the Matron wrote to her
mother to take her away she had
such a bad influence over the
young girls. 5 pupils

entertainment with his Magic Lantern

I'm finding this journal book a bit more challenging because of the page structure listing the number of pupils for each weekday. I've now realised that the pupil count belongs to the day above, even though it's on the same line as the next day. Some transcribers have added the number of pupils as a new line after the relevant day's entry, before starting a new paragraph for the next day. I think this makes it easier to read/understand once it's posted, and seems to be closer to the original intent of the writer.
