October 3rd
Wednesday
Sent a letter to Deborah, in which
endeavored to encourage her [sup]to[sup] pray for strength
to [sup] do her [end sup] duty &c &c

Thursday 4th
Rev'd R. W. Vanderkiste read and prayed
with those who were in the dining room
& gave them each a tract,
Matron shewed him three letters received
from those girls that are in situations. he said
he truly rejoiced to hear they were doing so well!

Friday 5th
Money received for sept'r work £46.6.11-

Ladies General Com't

Saturday 6th
Sent the Messenger to the Panama Storm's office
for the payment of last months washing bill &C £21.10-
as I was too busy to go.
Mr. Hossack gave an address this eve'g he told the inmates, that
- Peart was in a respectable situation, doing well.

Sabbath 7th
A Bible Class conducted by the Matron, there
being no ministers, Mr. Gibson gave an address at
3oclk. Ester, Christina and Eliza Lane did not come
when the bell rang, so whilst the first hymn was being sung
Matron went in search of them - Eliza & Christine were
covered up laying on the grass at full length pretending
to be asleep, Ester was hiding in the schoolroom, after getting
the three in - all went on comfortably but its exceedingly trying to bear with their naughtiness.
