July 20th
Thursday. Melinda had to go to bed 4 oclk [o'clock] yesterday with sick headache
went again with Mary Mitchell, the ring was found
for which the man demanded 3/. Matron remonstrated
told him 200 percent for the loan of a shilling [underscored]was unreasonable. at last he consented to take 2/6 but gtold her she ought to be thankfull [thankful] that she got it. as by rights it was forfited [forfeited].
Friday 21st. Louisa Williams asked to be received back again,
but because she had escaped twice in a few months
taking with her the clothes [underscored] she wore. she was told that the Matron could not excuse her without she came
on com. [committee] day and got leave from the ladies. Endeavoured to improve this interview by warning her of the folly & hardship of her [inserted] wicked life.[inserted]
Saturday 22nd.
Very little work to sent home, but what we have is done nicely. Matron went out at 1/2 past 2 oclk [o'clock] & returned 1/2 past 4 oclk [o'clock].

Sabbath 23rd. Mr W. Mills, Mr Pratt, and Mr Howitt, preached. This sabbath dayhas been peacefull [peaceful] and quiet. and all the inmates in health.

Monday 24th. The water is off again this morn. [morning]. thereby preventing even a commencment [commencement] of the laundry work untill [until] late. it is the more to be regretd. [regretted] because the weather is so fine.
