Sir
I have the honor to respectfully solicit your
assistance in collecting the Aboriginal names of
places with their meanings.
With that end in view I forward under seperate
cover 200 printed circulars, which, if I may, I would
suggest should be sent to the Inspectors and Sub-
Inspectors of Police in the Country districts with
a covering note requesting them to complete and
return at their earliest convenience.
The Society intends arraging the names in
lexicographical order and publishing them in their
Journal, thus making a permanent record of them
for future generations.
I might state that a similar application was
made to and granted by the Chief Secretary for
Queensland
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient servant
