The perfect purity of the latter there
cannot be a doubt. The perfect regularity
and evenness of quality & character through-
out is such as I never saw in x breed
sheep. The merinos generally attracted
little attention to the great disgust of
the Germans, who certainly became quite
"huffish" in consequence and great was
the twisting of long mustachios amongst
the numerous Bohemian, Stringarina [?]
Princes (Fursts) Counts & Barons and
their richly and most picturesquely
costumed dependants. It was quite amusing.
The English races of sheep quite took off
attentipn from them. The South downs,
Hampshire downs, Cheviots, Cotswolds,
East Kents, Dishleys, &ca, &ca, were
all represented admirably, and excited
amazing wonderment. A great part of
m0 time was taken up in going round
with parties of intelligent French proprietors
