Revd Mr Hassell, Brisbane
Dear Sir
Your Telegram & letter to hand & in reply can only say that I hardly know how to act as I have "no presentation board at present" at least none that the Congregation as a whole would submit to, as a congregation we have not [indecipherable] the Synod although about 30 members did so. The last board elected were Mr. South, Mr Faircloth & Mr Davidson & I am of opinion that the Congregation would insist upon having a Voice in electing the Clergyman. As far as the Church Wardens are concerned we have not yet
done anything. I have heard that some are trying to get Mr Creyke here. I have heard also Mr Blacks name mentioned but we as a Congregation have not yet done anything & will not do so until after the Easter Meeting, however I will let you know what is going on & if there is a chance for you. I will do what I can. I believe Rev [indecipherable] lay between Mr Black & yourself, that is if Mr Turner insists upon going away. I would like to see him stay another year, he would then be able to leave as with a clean sheet.
I have given you my ideas unreservedly & confidently & I hope you will treat

as such.
I spoke to Mr Faircloth & he is very much in your favour & he has great influence with a party but hoping Mrs Hassell & Family are well,
I remain Truly P R Noakes

Dear Mr Hassall
The present state of Maryborough is this
I have received a communication from the Churchwarden asking me if I know of any clergy man In reply I mentioned you as the only one known to me (at that time I knew of Mr Zillman only by report) but added that the [indecipherable] was not in a position to treat on the subject . and recommended the

My Dear Sir
I think the best answer I can send to you in reply to your Note of the 5th Inst is to forward you the enclosed reply to my application in your favour as Successor to Mr Tanner strange to say. I have heard nothing from Mr Tanner, and it was only on the receipt of the Archdeacons letter to me, that I became aware of the actual vacancy. I was intimately acquainted with your Father in New South Wales - and when living at Geelong both myself and Mr Faircloth were equally so with your Sister and her Husband, Dr Hope. We shall only be too well pleased to have
