remove Mr Middleton to Port Macquarie as there have been some complaints against him but Mr Middleton was not yet made acquainted with the change. the Archd however said he would [arrange?] matters as quickly as possible & promised he would inform me next [indecipherable] whether you were to remain at Bathurst or go to New Castle He laughed and said it is all Mr Hassall's fault, I told him it would be some time before he could take charge of the Cow pasture for a school room must be built between Liverpool & Campbelltown first, therefore I hope you will not make your appearance at Parramatta until sent for. Should you stay at Bathurst I shall go up with James in a fortnight but will write you what time I shall leave Parramatta in order that you may meet me at [indecipherable], but I rather expect we shall have to go to New Castle. We are much indebted to Mr Hill for [un deceiving?] the [indecipherable] who I first thought you to blame but when I [indecipherable] him on Monday there appeared no trace

of [angry?] emotions. I have not met with a [Cart?] to send you any wine yet (excepting for Mr [indecipherable] & at that time I thought you would be send for [indecipherable] ) John [indecipherable] has not obtained any more pitch shall I send up what we have got. enclosed is a letter for Mr Fisher which I paid the boatman a dump for I also send you Mr Taylor's by way of amuse =ment. I will write again on Friday. [Jane?] is very anxious to be at Mrs Street's [gives?] our united love to you. Samuel is in Sydney, I have not yet seen him. [Walker?] has quite disgraced himself at the [indecipherable] School. I was quite ashamed [indecipherable] to hear how ill he had behaved and taught the Children to behave to the [indecipherable]. [Eliza?] & the Infant are doing very well. Mrs Oakes is is hardly expected to get better the Children and myself are in good health but want Papa home again I am now in hopes there is a probability of our being soon settled [indecipherable] My dearest Thomas Yours most Sincerely & affectionately A Hassall

Friday Morning July 10th

My dearest Thomas

I write a few hasty lines by Mr Walker's servant to say that all is going on well at home. I have travelled with you in spirit ? journey and my thoughts will be at OConnel Plains the whole of this [indecipherable] day I can well conceive the trial ? Walker is passing through in losing sight for eve in this world of his dearest and best Friend for who ? love him as dear Eliza did, and I feel also acutely for the children they were all so attached to their Mother. Henrietta and Susanna are quite old enough to know her nature and feel her loss; but it must be for the best because God has done it through we cannot now trace his footsteps and I trust she is now with those who through

Faith and Patience are enjoying the [promise?] I cannot help thinking how very appropriate last Sunday evenings reading (the last Chapter of [indecipherable] ) and your prayer was, for Eliza was at that time come down to the flowings of Jordan, had nearly entered its cold flood, but what happiness was in store for her if like Christians Angels waited for her on the other side. I have just received a letter by Mr C Cooper from Kate and Marrianne, they were both well and my dear [Mother?] was also a little better. I shall hope to hear from you by Mr [Hassall?] as I dare say he will leave Bathurst first. I hope our little James stood the ride well. I think much of your Brother James he seems to be in the midst of danger from the Measles. Give my best remembrances to all. Kiss James for me and accept the affectionate love yourself of your very attached wife A Hassall
