North Pine 3rd July 1874

The Secretary Dis [Diocesan ?] Council

Dear Sir

The year has now closed for which period I undertook the North Brisbane Mission and I feel myself at liberty to resign the charge as Church of England Clergyman. I am disposed to do so for two reasons.

The stipend has not been sufficient and the scattered proulation renders

Rev. J. Hassall

[Printed leaflet] The Parish Intelligencer for Berrima, Nattai, and Surrounding Districts.

No. 1 - November, 1874 - Gratis.

Editor's Address.

It appears very desirable that some means of conveying reliable information upon Church matters and other subjects of interest to the religious community, should be afforded to the inhabitants of this district, and with this object in view The Berrima and Nattai Parish Intelligencer has been started.

This paper is intended to be published periodically, and (if circumstances permit) a number will be issued during the first week of each month and distributed gratuitously among the members of the Church of England in the district.

In addition to an editorial article, each number will contain accurate reports of all that has been done, or is proposed to be done in the different parts of the district concerning the Church. It is also proposed occasionally to refer to such general religious movements as may have taken place in the Colonies, in England, or elsewhere, as are likely to interest our readers.

The Lectionary for the Morning and Evening Services of each Sunday will be given, and a report of such births, marriages and deaths within the parish, as may be furnished to us.

It is further contemplated, when our space permits, to lay before our readers some information as to the result of labors of our missionaries to the Heathen and to God's ancient people Israel.

The Editor takes this opportunity to solicit communications upon any subject relating to Church, School or Parish matters in the district, and it is hoped that the opportunity for expressing opinion may be made use of in the spirit of fairness, moderation and, above all, charity.

It is requested that any member of the Church of England, desirous of receiving The Parish Intelligencer, will inform the Editor.

renders the duties too laborious and [indecipherable] I have not received more than £25 from the whole District hitherto but probably last quarter payments will realize £25 more. The total that I have received amounts to £150 viz. 75 S.P.G. grant a donation 50 Rev. T. Jones District 15, Paid. I may mention that All Saints Church has undertaken to pay £50 but I do not know

from what period it would date, I cannot therefore include it in last year's account. I have been disappointed in several localities where I expected some income. Sandgate has paid but little Eagle Farm had to be abandoned, also Redcliffe. Travelling expences and horse feed are items of consideration in this District so that I cannot undertake the work again unless I see a clear £300 per annum income. -

The present position does not amount to this. I can only insure say £100 from North and South Pine including 4 localities.

Caboulture, Downfall, and some out places are very uncertain.

I propose if the [indecipherable] Council authorized me, to visit the Stations included in the circuit of [indecipherable], [Eilcap?], Collington, Cressbrook Est and Mount Brisbane and have reason to believe that I should obtain about £100 per annum from a quarterly visit

Brisbane October 1873

To the Secretary Diocisan Council

Dear Sir

The Bishop of Brisbane some three months ago authorized me to make enquiry as to the practicability of establishing a Church of England Mission in the agricultural Districts around Brisbane. Shortly afterwards the Diocesan Council, I believe, decided to recommend two Clergymen to these Localities giving me the choice of selection of the Northern or Southern portions. I have thought it desirable that I should choose the Northern and have confined my visitations to most of the Parishes in that [crossed through - district] direction. It may be satisfactory to your Committee to have some report of the encouragement I have met with, and the spiritual wants of the members of the Church of England residing in those places which I have visited. Mention may also be made of the educational requirements generally.

The Plan that I adopted before I commenced [crossed through - before I made] a tour in
