make up the required amount I suppose Mr James must leave. If he [wished?] to stay I think that with the help of Cleveland Bay & Port Mackey he might have got a sufficien stipend and he seems much dissatisfied with his treatment by the people.

With regard to your own dis - trict I learn from Mr Vallancey that he is willing to go to it, but I have made up my mind that it will be better for all parties if you do not object that the district

should be made a separate one, & should include Bowrol & the Iron mines & [indecipherable]. It is evident to me that the Jail & Berrima & the dis - trict north of Berrima (School & the farms N. & N. E.) are more than sufficient for one man . The Jail with 80 prisoners in solitary confinement is in itself a great work .

a great deal towards his maintenance.

I think the clergyman should live at Boural where a cottage & supplies could be had & indeed he would be within easy reach of New Sheffield, Mitta gong & the [indecipherable] Free Selectors. In that case a maintenance might be provided & yo for him, & you would have your work concentrated in Berrima while the [Jellore?] distict would give you abundant country occupation .

I commend this proposal to your consideration & shall be glad to hear from you in reference to it
