The rain does not seem to have had the effect of
at all cooling the atmosphere but this damp heat
has made the country look beautiful, the lucern
has grown for the first time this year and I think we
shall be able to cut a crop in another week and
the grass everywhere is beautifully green. Rain in
January is very unusual in any quantity unless
[indecipherable] remembers to have seen any before this year
and in consequence many people had their wheat
stacks uncovered and have lost by it. John has gone
- yesterday and will arrive today - to [? Glen?]
with Annie. Mary Ann and Mrs Sheberas. Annie
has been to so unwell lately that a change has become
necessary. I do not suppose they will stay longer
than the end of this month at the latest. You must
not complain of the Denbigh folks for not sending
you the news for really there is none and it is

quite impossible for anybody to write a newsletter
creditably more than once a month. Suppose
you have heard of Mrs Cowpers new governess Miss
[Lear?]. She was some time ago governess at the Mosley's
where I knew her. She is a quiet simple little thing
but she lately broke a blood vessel and they
do not think she can live long. We have not seen her.
Chrissy Wood is in great distress at the idea of leaving
[indecipherable] which she thinks she will have to do when
her sister is married. She would rather anything than
go back to the Hunter. With love to Henry who I hope
is well before this time Believe me to be my
dear James very faithfuly yours.
