Many young men, aged and hardened by combat, cynical in some cases, will need a mental conditioning to restore them to normal productive lives and I think that the University can do much to help them by exposing them anew to the principles which have made America the symbol of freedom to peoples everywhere. Courses in sociology, labor relations and political science would help Stanford veterans to assume the positions of leadership which will be greatly needed in the post-war world.
