Somewhere in France La Mienne Chere
First I'll tell you what I can't and why. I can name no places in which I have been, am or will be. I can write nothing of the movements of troops or men. I can send you none of the pictures that I had saved to mail from civilization - not even a snap of myself, or a postcard. I can write nothing about any conditions. All my mail will be read before it reaches you, and I mail my letters uncealed. Censership is strict

and is becoming stricter. I talked with the major at the head of the dept. here yesterday. "Family and personal matters" are to be my subjets from now on, but none of your letters to me have been opened or are likely to be. How long these more stringent rules have been in effect I don't know, and so I don't know how much of my mail you have received during the past two months. The last two I have from you are dated Oct 18 & 22 (numbers 16 and 17) and you had just received mine of August 20th. I have sent volumes and volumes since then, and pictures

and pictures; and a pair of opingas and a cap -and a fan. The letters that I haven't got from you before #16 are 2,3,4, 13,15, but those that have come have arrived all out of order so that there is a chance yet of me getting them. -- The many many details that I should like to have you get right away I shall have to wait until apres la guere to tell you.
