Dear Daddy,

I have just spoken to mother over the
phone. She mentioned that you feel as
if I have "dumped" you two. I don't
feel that way and I am sorry that you
do. It was unfortunate that you disapproved
of our marriage, but I hope that
events will prove to you that it was not
an unwise decision

The due date for the baby is three
days less than a month away. Since it
is the first one, it will probably be late,
but we are well prepared in any case.
Aside from everything being perfectly normal,
the doctor says the baby has a
very strong heartbeat and is in good
position. Jim plans to take a few days
off when I get home from the hospital,
so that we can really get a good start
in the routine of being parents. I hope
that you & mother will give us a couple
of months to get things on a comfortable
schedule, & then come up together to
see your first grandchild. Hospitals take
1 day old pictures now, & put them up in
nice little folders with all the vital
statistics. Jim will wire you, of course, as
soon as the baby arrives, but we'll also
