METROPOLITAN HOTEL, Broadway and Prince St., New York. ----- HENRY CLAIR, Lessee.

New York, 18th of June 1881.

Mr. C. Van Buren, Mayfield, Cala

Dear Sir, In few hours we will leave New York, and before leaving I wish to tell you once more good bye.

Impossible to find in New York the Road Sulkys as required. I have seen plenty of light ones, of any size of any form of any style, but nothing truly good, strong and substantial.

Every carriagemaker could built according orders, but there are some makers with patents, other ones with other patents, and in fact I am not able to know wich are the best.

In such circumstances, I will advise you to consult our drivers and Mr Covey or Mr Chase or any horseman

you may know, you shall order our sulkies and one skeleton wagon and I will pray Mr Steinhart to pay for.

Enclosed you will find some addresses of the best sulky makers in Chicago Ohio and Connecticut. I dont send those I have had in New York. There is nothing satisfactory.

For saddles the harness makers of N.Y. import the best from England. They have only common stock in their stores. They don't care for quality but for cheap prices.

I have seen sulkies from 55 dollars to 60. And saddles at 26 dollars per dozen!

Please write to me what you decide for sulkies and from London I will be able to send a good saddle to Joe Hill.

Yours truly

P. Coutts
