Translation

The book of the Clergy in
Romance that is called
the Image of the World
containing 55 chapters and
28 figures without which
the books could not be
understood easily. They are
divided into three parts:
The first contains 14 chapters
not including the prologue, and contains 9
figures. Here begins the first part.
The first chapter concerns the power
of God. The second concerns how God made
the world. The third how God created
man in his own image. The fourth why
God did not create man who could
not sin. The fifth why and how
the 7 were found? and their
ordering. The sixth concerning the three
kinds of people [>>>gens] that philosophy
places [why is this plural?] in the world and how
the clergy came to France.
The seventh are the characteristics of
the seven arts. The eighth concerns how nature
operates and what nature is intrinsically.
The ninth concerns the heavens.
The tenth how the four elements
are placed. The eleventh is how the
earth hold itself up in the universe.
