August 14th 1918 Dearest Mother, I heard to day from thee Oh! Dr. and wasn't I happy it was the letter that thee wrote to Camp Meade and contained news that was very sweet and it was also short I had just gotten my mess tin down and was started on my bacon and all the other good things and Lt. Fisher handed me thy letter tears came to the old eyes and they are in them right now but they are happy ones A little weak. but Mother dear I love thee and it is so hard to be so far away from one who is so true and who has done so much for me.

There is nothing new here in this section our work now is actual shooting etc. we have made rapid progress and this out fit is a credit to any divission. We get a paper here published in Paris and comes out in one sheet form its all war with a few items from the states. I will make this rather short as I must go and listen to our band play its one of my few recreations and I'll write tomorrow again Hoping thee is well. I am thine Jack OR Jn. N Bentley 2nd Lt. 313 Inf. N.G.

Thank uncle Frank for me please it was splendid.
