But instead of being rooms as
perhaps the now 2nd Stories once
were, you may "imagine" a row
of piazza's or porches with the Ends
open, forming a promenade from
one end of the Streets to Another—
And under these porches are the
Stores opening into the promenade
where we may walk and purchase
almost every thing the town
has for sale without being exposed
to the Wet— and where there
is Room parts of these Shelters are
occupied by exposing the goods on
the outside of the Stores as they
are Sometimes done in our Streets.

At Convenient distances asunder
Say 50 to an 100 yards there are
flights of Stone Steps that go down
from the level of the piaza floors
