Near the Summit of these hills
there is a lake or reservour
for feeding the canal below—
and for many thousand acres
in the more Elevated part of
the "Edge" it is nothing but
Moor. On the Side of the hill
nearest Rockdale and near the
Summit— there are a number of
posts planted and numbered
with the tops painted black as
a guide to travellers in the winter
when these heights are covered
with Snow:— but not of this
precaution I understood the poor
cartmen are Sometimes lured
by deceptive appearances and
meet destruction by being
too near the Edge.
Came on to Rockdale a
few Miles further after passing
through Littlebury a Small
manufacturing Village where we changed
horses. From Rockdale to
Manchester again where we
arrived about Sunset or a
little before—
