A beautiful day: the Leadbeaters came; they and
Lucy took a walk in the afternoon: Louis over
after supper: father at Uncle Samuels in the
morning.

26th.
A bright beautiful day; tho' quite warm: Came to Baltimore
with father and a number of other friends; saw
Henrietta at Laurel: Sister's the girls to stay at brothers
all came this evening: Alban, Eddie, Jordan and Albert
Gilpin all in after tea: Debbie, Sarah and myself went
into Gerards a little while after supper, to see Lizzie Smith.

"... went into [Gerards/Gerands?] & [little?]" - sounds like a store so am searching records/directories identify.

I see this as 'Gerards a little' so have changed it. I hope you can identify Gerards, though it may turn out to be a personal name/address as Lizzie Smith can be found there. Don't you wish Ellen would occasionally make a comment on something rather than just saying where they all went and had meals? There was one instance, some pages back now, where she said how glad she was to have forsworn reading light literature, even though she loved it. That made my day!

Oh, yeaaaah! Of course! That works. No obvious match for "Gerard" in 1860 Baltimore. James and Mary Gerhard show up in 1860 Baltimore, both born around 1800 in Maryland, but none like "Gerand".
(With a wink and a smile) Don't forget about her mentioning all the illnesses ... and deaths, but that was the 19th Century.
