The Neighbors is a social club in Sandy Spring, Maryland that was established on May 20, 1897, and has met continuously since then. The Neighbors was organized as a protest against the extravagance seen in some of the other community social clubs. Initially, sandwiches and coffee were the prescribed meal, but over time that has changed. Today, The Neighbors is comprised of folks from all walks of life who get together once a month for dinner, entertainment and a business meeting. Their motto is – “We meet to eat!”. Members are interested in all things that affect the community in which they live; however, they do not have projects, nor do they talk politics or religion. Membership is limited to 17 families.
