The Ebbitt:

Washington, D. C. Mch 23rd 1880

Dear Mother,

I received your letter last week, & was very glad to hear from you.

I enjoyed Amy's visit to Miss Joe very much, & wish she could have stayed longer. We had such very disagreeable weather all the time she was here. I am delighted to hear that she is going to Balto for such a long visit. I am sure she will enjoy it. I intended to go to see her while there, if possible. We are having lovely spring weather now. I hope it will continue.

I am so sorry that you

I hope Father & Amy arrived safely on Friday last. How is Will? I was so sorry to hear that he was sick. I hope he will soon be quite well again.

I dined at Mrs Stone's on Sunday last, they were all quite sell. I am so glad that you are at last to have the chicken yard. It will be so nice for you. You may then be more succesfull. I am quite well & like my place very much. I dont have to work quite

so hard as I used to & have more time to myself.

Lucy Hutton is in town, she is staying with her sister, who lives on S. St. I called to see her yesterday evening. I am very sorry to hear that Aunt Lise is having such a hard time. I wish we could help her, yet we are so poor our selves that we cannot do much. I fear towards releiving her. I am glad to hear from Sidney that he is doing a little better. I wish he could have employment in a more civilized part of the world. It must be very lonesome for him

I have no news in particular. Washington is quite lively now. There are a great many strangers here & hotels are doing a good business. I must now close. I was up this morning before 5 o'clock, & have to work until 12 to night. This is my long day. Tomorrow I only work six hours. I will write to some of you soon. With love to all,

I remain you affec~ son

Ulric~
