The 1531st meeting of the Association was held with Wendy
Lawrence at Windrush. The treasurer's report was unchanged
with a balance of $89.46.

The sentiment of the hostess: (better than words) Wendy
showed us one of the pots she had made this summer. She had
shaped the pot with two plastic bowls. Then she fired it
for three days in a garbage pail incinerator using sawdust
The result, a beautiful highly burnished piece. She had
enjoyed especially Bob Turner's comment on her work.

Louie Canby told us of her reading on earthquakes, about
carbon compounds, vegetable and mineral, about organic
material in meteorites from outer space carrying hydrocarbon
bearing material that cause gas, about earthquake light that
cannot be explained, about mysterious bubbling at Malibu
Creek, in 1971, about samples with 93 percent methane (St.
Elmo's fire) and hypotheses of causes.

There is no way to describe Deb Willson's contribution, and
fine as always.

Chris Kolstad cannot find a species of bird that likes rice.
Mary Seiler reported on her visit to the East Wing of lthe
National Gallery to see the very special Japanese exhibit
to be shown through January 23, 1989.

Nell Johnsen had a report today on the visit in August to
the Isle of Man and about the Lakey Wheel there, the largest
water wheel which had been used in the Lakey lead mine to
pump air into the mine, and about their annual Viking
ceremony.

Caroline Schauffler told about Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann
Burns. Her question: Why the name Empire State?

Beth Bullard told us about her visit with Jim to Churchill,
Manitoba, on Hudson Bay, to see polar bears there. Date:
