1531st Meeting
Henny Bregliano told us about a granddaughter's wedding. Her question: how to
repair a linen tablecloth. Answers: Use the cloth for pillow shans, or napkins,
or hide the damaged part with an appliqued flower or design.
Corrine was advised to prune chrysanthemums before July. Three or four-inch
cuttings may be placed in a pan of sand. Sometimes the cuttings too will bloom
in the fall.
Jane Stabler read an amusing excerpt from Wings in my Window.
Deb Willson read to us Erma Bombeck's consideration for determining our voting.
Nell Johnsen showed us pictures of Orkney Islands. Some of Skara Brae, an
archaeological dig believed to be from 3100 BC. It was discovered in 1850. When
Nell and Louise Canby and Helen Farquhar visited there this summer, the weather
was misty and cold. The heather was in bloom.
Caroline Schauffler reported on an article from the New Yorker, September 26,
1988. It was written by John McFee a battle between Los Angeles and the mountains,
one of the least rained upon places in the Western Hemisphere, and a description
of the debris that flows down the stream valley in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Louie Canby's contribution was about "Hands."
The Candel Festival on October 15, from 10 to 2 pm, was announced.
Members spoke with pride of Phoebe Mills, great granddaughter of Elizabeth Ligon,
who had won a (gold) orange medal at the Olympic games.
