1529 Meeting

One of Henny Bregliano's granddaughters married a graduate of the Naval Academy
who is now in the Marines and stationedin the Persian Gulf. He was posted first to
California, went on to Oldnawa, Philippines, Australia to the Persian Gulf. He is on a
guarding an oil rig there. When he has leave, he goes to Bahrain and can call his wife
from there. He will return the middle of December, and his next duty will be in the
States. Betty Hartge's question was about our memory or knowledge of the custom
of diamond engagement rings. Some had grandmothers who had diamond rings.

Caroline Hussman had a quotation from Alice Walker about peaches. Her question:
the names of flavorful peaches. It was thought that freestone peaches were more
flavorful then cling. Georgia Bell and Red Haven were named.

Mary Reading Miller had a question about the many bees at the doors these days.
Were they bore bees, mud dobbers, and wasp-looking? But all agreed that you must
never swat at a yellow jacket.

Beth Bullard told about her trip to the Grand Canyon with Jim. They had an exciting
experience on a raft there. The daytime temperature, 24th to the 30th of June was
110 . The temperature of the Colorado River was 50 degrees. (At what age can you sign up
for Friends House? (52.) They went on to California where their son Gregory was
married on the lawn of his wife's grandmother's home overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Edna Fraley read a lovely peom on Friendship. Mary Seiler had some laughable
definitions of gardners and gardening. (Her question: Did anyone have a friend
or a friend of a friend who would be interested in renting her apartment at the
Greens in Leisure World?)

Martha Ligon said that she and Johnnie had just returned from a wonderful trip
to Scotland and England. Chris Kolstad and George visited Thirty Mile Lake in
Canada, and a Degas exhibit in their new glass museum.

Mary Lillian Moore had a map of Montgomery County to be identified. Deb Willson
could tell her from the divisions marked and the names that it was for collections
for the Red Cross.

Jean Ladson had a copy of the Olympic magazine with news of Jim Ligon's appoint-
ment to oversee equestrian events at the Olympic games in Seoul.

September 17, is the date of the Museum auction. The name of the new director is
Valerie Smith.

The meeting adjourned to meet at Betty Hartge's in September.
