Caroline Hussman told of her experience at the spectacular 90th Bach
Festival. The following is enthusiastic! The chorus sings in the
church which is a part of LeHigh University. She attended with Deb Wilson
who was introduced to the Festival, 32 years ago by Beatrix Moore.
After two years, purple martins have nested in the Kolstad's bird house.
Blue birds have nested in their boxes.
Jean Ladson enjoyed an exhibit of Beatrix Potter's original drawings at
the Morgan Library.
Henny Bregliano was welcomed and she was glad to be back and to see
all her friends. She had finished Mrs. Sadat's book which she found
fascinating and recommends reading.
Joy Shotts announced the 75th anniversary of Travellers Aid Society on
21st of June.
Helen Farquhar reported on the announcement by the County to use
Woodlawn for a helicopter base. Beth Bullard's letter to the editor,
from the Post is attached.
Kay Metcalfe talked about "double speak." Her question: the name of
Irving Berlin's wife. Answer: Ellen Mackey, a Baltimore girl.
Mary Seiler reported on the Paul Gaugin exhibit at the National
Galleries. Her question regarding widening of the road at Glenmont
provoked a discussion of the interconnector. Bel Pre, Shady Grove,
Muncaster, Leisure World, Spencerville, Briggs Chaney?
Martha Ligon told us about the Blue Moon in May. It happens when there
is a second full moon in the same month. This occurs every 2.7 years/
The next Blue Moon will come December 1990.
Janet Becker told of the application and acceptance of their farm for the
bi-centenial for Montgomery County. The farm had been in her family for
200 years and for 8 generations. They could not submit a copy of their
deed for her Mother had donated the original deed for the farm to the
Maryland Room at the University of Maryland in 1940. It could not be
located when they asked to make a copy of the deed for their application.
There were 32 farms in the Maryland as old as Edgehill and 2 farms dated from
1665. They dressed in costumes of the period for the celebration and
parade at Fells Point.
The Sandy Spring Museum will hold their 7th annual Strawberry Festival,
Saturday, June 4, 10 am to 4 pm, at Longwood Recreation Center. The
Museum Auction will be held September 17.
We all miss Camille Slade who lives at Hickory Grove and Elizabeth Ligon
who is at Meridian.
