and freshly minted green of spring. It is almost as though their beauty had angered
the gods and so they were destroyed. Beth's question: how is Sylvia? She has
had a tooth abscess, otherwise o.k.

Jane Stabler can never throw things away, so offered a saying for those who share
her problem: use it up - wear it out , make do - or, do without.

Joy Shotts thought this a good time to read the list of Association members and
when they joined. Deb remembered becoming a member in 1940, Sylvia came in 1947,
Rose thought she came in 1946 or 1947 , and, of course, our "newest member" Nell is
1988. Joy's question: where to have old coins appraised? Beth suggested Katen in
Colesville.

Mary Moore Miller had some thoughts about possessions - they are good when they
don't get in the way and don't become masters instead of servants.

Eda Teague asked if anyone had seen Venus when it passed the moon several weeks
ago. It was called a Quaker moon when she was growing up. Eda also had a saying -
when down in the mouth, remember Jonah, he came out all right.

Reports: the Hospital - only a 3 percent vacancy rate now and a need for nurses;
the Womens Board has given 5 nursing scholarships recently and praised Helen Farquhar,
Louie Canby and Lil Brooke who, among them have 107 years of service to the Board.

Announcements: the Museum - will have a farewell brunch for Susan Mertz, the Director,
on May21st and the opening of a new exhibit, "Touch & Try" , on May 22nd; Sandy Spring
Friends School will dedicate their new building on May 22nd and will have their May Fair
and Auction on May 14th; the Sheep and Wool Festival will be held at Howard County Fair
grounds on May 7 and 8; the Washington Cathedral Flower Mart will be open on May 6 and 7.

Inquiries were made about missing members. Helen is having some post-cataract
operation problems but Margie and the family are there. Betty Ligon is in the Meridian Ok
Nursing Home, likes company but isn't reading, so no need for cards. Having lost
weight she can use a wheelchair. Mary Reading is still in Friends Nursing Home but
is better. Hennie has also had some post-operation problems. We look forward to their
returning.

Caroline closed the meeting saying how nice it was to be here at Homestone for
Nell's first meeting. We will meet with Chris Kolstad in June.
