She pointed out that the beautiful windows in old cathedrals were the Apollo
programs of medieval times.

Helen Farquhar enjoyed the Sandy Spring Bank Christmas letter which
said, "Blessings should be remembered and shared."

Louie Canby quoted some of the items from Malcolm Baldridges's hit list
for bad English. Here are some: to finalize, viable input, hopefully (use I
hope), prior to (use before). Avoid redundances such as serious crisis,
end results,. Louie asked Does arbutus always grow on the north slope?
The answer was, "Usually, not always."

The author of the article brought in by Elizabeth Gray learned a
lesson from a stranger on a plane. Boredom comes from inside you, not from
the outside. There's not enough in your mind. Get out and do things.

Elizabeth Ligon shared with us a profound quotation from a friend's
Christmas letter. Norman Cousins wrote that human life is the most rare and
precious of prizes in the universe. We have the capacity to love and respond to
love; to create in ways we hav e never done before.

Nell Johnsen passed around for inspection some books from Jean Coulter's
estate. Kay Metcalfe drove to Meeting Sunday in a heavy fog, and for the
rest of that Sunday she enjoyed taking trips in the fog out of her memory.

Wendy Lawrence had a quotation from T.S. Eliot which said in part,
We arrive where we started and know it for the first time.

When Sylvia Nash gets her Frederick Post, she looks first in the upper
right hand front page for the daily quotation. Here is an example: "If only we
could be born at age 80 and gradually work back to age 18." On behalf of the
museum, Sylvia Nash asked for the name of the stream near Tucker Lane which
runs into the Patuxent near Rt. 108. Possibly "Massey's Run" said Kay Metcalfe.
Sylvia N. needs letters and diaries for the Museum. She will copy them and
return them.

There were no unfinished business or committee reports. Joy Shotts announced
that March 26 was the date for the S.S. Museum general membership meeting.
A museum trip is being planned in April to Gunston Hall, and the Carlisle
House and lunch at Gadsby's Tavern.

In answer to a question Peg Gibian said that the Historical Commission had
rejected her house as a historical site.

We adjourned to meet again with Mary Reading Miller at Nell Johnsen's
Homestone.

Respectfully submitted,
Christine Kolstad
