Summer, and I suppose Father will be
returning today also. Mrs. M is going
to Balt. monday with Mr. Bentley +
the baby, such a dear, fat little
dumpling of a baby as it is. If this
child of ours is a girl shall we name
her for my mother? John told me not
long since that his brother was named
"Joe Bancroft" so that is settled.

There are simply no happenings down
here to write about. I never go off
the place, and live in books and
[jan.?] and thinking of you. I shall
be so happy when he writes that
he is coming, but I understand
perfectly the conditions, and I know
the visit would give me little pleasure
until affairs are straightened at home.

I suppose sister or someone has told
you of Willie Brookes serious lung trouble.
He had a hemmorage on the way to
Asheville. Aunt Carrie is very despondent.

Far from discouraging me thy
letter gave me keen pleasure, and
an added impulse to try and do.

I did not hope to do any thing worth
while at my first essay and that thee
can honestly find some things to like
in the sketch I sent is more than I
anticipated even. As to the plot of the
story I thought I would make that more
interesting by going into the detail of
her young life, and make her friend
ship and love develop more gradually
but the very elusiveness or rather lack
of plot seemed to me in harmony with
the after life which I intended to be
more of heaven than earth, without
having her a dreamer or useless in
the human place which was hers rather
have her doing and living in the
utmost yet restrained by this inward
