Aug. 29th, 1900,

My dearest -
Father came home last night
and plans are afoot for his next
trip to N.Y. when he wants thee &
J. to return with him. He can arrange
to return either Sept. 5th or Sept. 11th
whichever seems best for all concerned.

I have written Sister to that effect,
and furthermore have asked her to
bring Jean to New York herself for
two reasons - firstly I think as he
has been sick that a woman can
look out for his physical needs
better than a man, and secondly
because I felt that it would be a
great inconvenience to thee to
start from Shelter Island on
account of luggage, and other
practical considerations. Father will
of course want to take the 11.30 train
if possible. I have told Sister to write
to thee. I wont close this letter till
I get the mail so I can tell thee
what Sister says about Jean. Emily
