Knowlton.
Oct. 3rd. 1922.
We might almost be said to have changed
the day of meeting of this society to the
second Tuesday in the month, as for the
fourth time this season did we meet on
that date in Sept., & at Tanglewood with
all but two of the families represented.
These with some guests gathered at 1 o'clock
to enjoy the delicious lunch served by our
hostesses, after which the Pres. called the
meeting to order for transactions of business.
Reading & adoption of
minutes were followed by the call for
readers, neither of whom had come prepared,
but Cousin Ellen Farquhar did read a
selection from Good House-Keeping which
gave the poetic side of gardening from an
amateur's stand point.
The writer claims that although "each
cucumber might represent a round quarter,
each bean fifteen cents, each cabbace 'a
King's ransom', yet a garden planted
in dollars shall bring forth beauty & joy.
That is the profit: Had I not done it,
that would have been the loss"!
