In response to Cornelia Bentley's call for
"hands up" of all those whose gardens were
without weeds, only one hand was
raised (& that from Harwood), but when
visiting the Edgewood garden later, we
felt it could be put in the class with
the one.

Corrie Brooke wanted to know what to do
for aster beetles on their dahlias: Pyrox
is a good remedy, also insect powder
can be used before the beetle appears.

One of the visitors, Katherine Thomas, said
her sweet corn had not been a success,
& could she have saved her seed too many
years in succession. Most have had good
crops - perhaps the wet season was responsible
for her partial failure & not the
seed.

After the appointment of Richard P. Iddings
& Hulda Janney, readers for the next
meeting, adjourned to Knowlton to lunch
at one o'clock on October 7th.

The walk to the garden revealed everything
in a most flourishing condition,
with an abundance of good things
to eat in the past, present & future.
