just spoken of its being time to houd bean poles take from the ground & turn upside down; cedar is considered the best wood for bean poles. Dr. Brooke spoke of a good white wash that would not rub off made by the government receipt. Bush Lima beans are not liked, not yielding well. To the question would it pay to dig a well for refuse, came one ans, no.[ ?] are used by some for the purpose Dr. Brooke again reminded us that we were not doing right by taking down the receiver to listen, as it short circuits the line. rules must be obeyed in order to have good service someone had heard 3 clocks strike while waiting for an ans. Pears must be kept in a dark place, some wrap in paper & keep in bureau draws, using newspaper as top covering - they should be carefully packed, it is time now, some have already done so. Those who dig their roots now were told to pack in sand in boxes & put in cellar. Another way is to dig trenches like cabbages. Those who want a good receipt for oiling furniture can get it from Sue Thomas. Wm Moore said he had had better success with his hams this year than ever before, they were kept from rusting by hanging in a tight dark closet made of pine wood. It is thought best to plant the walnut where the tree is to grow, altho a tree of one foot could be safely moved

Put hen house manure on just before plowing dont plow too soon in the fall. Kale needs no protection during the winter. A flower garden should have 2 or 3 ft wire around it posts 4 ft hight hens wont fly over & dont take trouble to step across. Anyone visiting Plymouths can get them at Harewood. 341 Meeting Tanglewood Dec 23rd 1901

Dec 23rd one month latter than usual the H.I. met at the hospitable home Tanglewood, of Alban & Sue Thomas. The Nov. mtg being dropped as the angel of death had come into our midst & taken the daughter of our members B.H. & S.T. Miller. Bessie Miller Thom. We feel that altho absent in person she is with us in spirit, & the influence of her life 34 short yrs was one that will ever be remembered & will be an inspiration to her children & friends always. The mtg was opened by the Pres. both sets of minutes read & then election of officers followed. Alban G. Thomas was chosen Pres. & C. H. F. secy for the coming year Among the guests present were Mr & Mrs Henry Miller & Miss Mary Bond. After enjoying a delicious supper the mtg was again opened. the fore thought Com advised us not to miss the chance of getting ice & last but not least "go sleighing & keep young" the latter we did in imagination as snow failed to make its appearance, we were like the little boy whose mother told him "to hang his cloths in a hickory limb & not go near the water. What is the best way to arrange a hen house in order that the hens may lay & set in

same? have movable boxes so they can be turned around in another apartment, for the setting hens. it is well to have two rows of boxes 6ft long. In building a hen house ventilate the roof by lattice work, line sides with tared paper, wads low & movable 2½ ft from floor give plenty of light. P.H. hens are beating all the other members in laying & yet she wants to know how to keep up eggs supply, we would have her give tell us. It was thought ice hands should be given a dollar per day if they board themselves. 75¢ if boarded. In hiring horses hands & wagon to cut & haul ice per day, from $4 to $6 is allowed or so much for filling ice house, the price depending on size of house. Some allow their cook to burn a light all night, others (if they can help it) do not. The cook has a right to lock her room door when she goes out, the latter being here for time being. How to make celery crick? hill up as it grows, some varities are more so than others. The answer was to make hands come early, some one suggested sending them to trim everyday. John Thomas gives his a Xmas turkey as an inducement. Alvan G. Thomas spoke of the tower of babel and asked only it was built saying that 160 or 180ft of same were still standing. He also told an amusing snake story (true this time) Wm Thomas gave us an interesting account of the Peace Conference in Phila which he had recently attended. 342nd Meeting Walbrooke Jan 20th 1902

one side of the Amerseley house a lighter color. It was thought best to buy material & mix paint oneself. Lou Brooke asked for S.T. Miller what the mtg thought of the advisibility of having Frank Lea work among the colored people, establishing an agency so to speak & would the neighborhood be willing to help defray expenses for same paying by week month or year, it was thought an excellent idea, but rather an uncertain way of hiring for him, while all would like to help financially some feel unable to do so at present. Then adj to Sunnyside Jane 25th

Owing to sickness at Sunnyside the H.I. assembled at Walbrooke Jan 20th after giving but two day's notice to our hostess truly her name should go on record as a wonderful woman. The mtg was called to order by the new Pres.
