298 meeting
Sunnyside 3-7-1898
97
The Home Int. met at Sunnyside Mar 7th 98
for its 298th meeting. Does the society realize that
after one more meeting it will be ready for some
sort of Contennial Celebration of the 300th meeting?
This meeting was well attended both by member and guests
\and was pleasant in every way, and many domestic and
foreign affairs were satisfactorily disposed of.
Questio9ns for the evening were, first
\1 - How many present have made or expect to make hot
beds? Some have hot beds, some cold frames and start them
about the middle of March - while others do not make either.
Mr. Davis planted peas the 22nd of Feb. and Janney Shoemaker
has also planted them. The other gardeners present
are waiting for more signs of spring.
Dr. Thomas asked if it would be too much in the
nature of speculation to sell his wheat now, and boy wheat
in elevators in Balto. to sell in May.
It seemed to be the general opinion that there would be
no harm in doing it.
Dr. Brooks failed to sow rye and grass last fall and wanted
the best way to get a field set in grass for this summer.
Advised to harrow and sow timothyand clover and orchard grass for
permanent pasture with good top dressing. For a fence between
his garden and a neighbor's field a picket fence was suggested
for the side where the neighbors chickens or stock might be and a
wire fence the rest of the way. As his garden was made where [illegible] have been
recently cut down, and the roots were not cut first. There are many stumps
to removed. A suggestion was made that Home Int. members should go upon
an appointed day, or send a man to assist in removing them.
