MENDON 4-16-94
fest when a move to the grounds was on [illegible]
ted after reading the preliminary minutes.
Those of us who were energetic inough
to walk out discovered flourishing peas
in the garden where the other seed however
were still planted. But in a bed
by the door some beautiful hyacinths
blooming and a promise of more showed
that something had been able to brave
the weather tho roses are oleander and
other plants had succumbed to it.
On our return to the house our hosts
question opened the discussion of the evening
as he wished to know in view of the advance guard of Coxey's
army being then in camp near his gate - how
we should treat the men in they come in a
body. The sum of the opinions given was
that should speed the parting guests with
all cordiality and as for their welcome
and entertainment they should be as
cool and as slight as might be to fellow
men in probable distress. Apropos of our
probable danger from Coxey's braves when
the army shall be disbanded in Washington
there was much talk of organizing a home
guard. That there are reasonable grounds
for apprehensive seems to be generally felt
