Wind N.W. Clear 10o SAT. JAN. 4th, 1896

Clear & cold with high wind "Phil" Robison & "Bessie" went to Laurel to meet Edward on his return from Philada they drove "Frank" to Mrs. Ellicott's dayton. I borrowed six small "loads" of coal from Saml Wetherald at the store. Edward and party arrived at 4-30 p m, almost frozen. Edwd especially, was completely chilled through and was a long time getting "thawed out". After dark, the boys (Pul and Frank) took Mrs. Ellicott's dayton home. Mrs. Robison came in and borrowed a bed quilt. it bids fair to be an extremely cold night.

Wind N.W. Clear & Cloudy 6o SUN. JAN. 5th, 1896

Weather still cold, somewhat cloudy & looks like snow. Willie & Fanny came about breakfast time. I did not go to meeting, not feeling very well. Stiff & rheumatic Edward is getting "thawed out" after his experience yesterday in coming from Laurel.

Wind NE & SE Cloudy 6o MON. JAN. 6th, 1896.

Cold, cold. Willie & Fanny went back to "Fairfield" after breakfast. I went up to the store. There was quite a large gathering at the annual greeting of the Insurance Co. held in the Lyceum building. I went down to Ashton & also up to the store & P.O. The "Baltimore Daily Sun" commenced coming to me today. Went up to the mill for screenings.

Wind S.E. Cloudy 18o TUES. JAN. 7th, 1896.

Cold & raw. Cloudy all day & towards evening some snow fell, not enough to cover the ground. Went up to the store & P.O. Took Edwds shoes up to Jno Oldfield to have them "half soled". Rode on horseback down to see B Owen Hardy & lanced a perineal abcess for him. Afternoon went to the mill for horse feed & bought 94lbs of coal from Henderson. Henry Powell was here & I extracted a tooth for him. Paid Phil Robison for going to Laurel for Edwd. After dark "Tom" Hove came for Edward, who went with him & a party "skating", he went on horseback. I was opposed to his going on account of the extreme cold & darkness.

Wind S.E.. Clear & Cloudy. 20o WED. JAN. 8th, 1896.

Edwd did not reach home until about midnight. I went down to the stable after he came and altogether had a poor night's rest, and am very rheumatic and sore today. Went up to the store & to Fairall's shop, also to John Oldfield's to have my riding bridle mended which was broken in Edwd's "fly around" last night. Afternoon Sarah Campbell & Kate Matthews were here The former for examination & treatment.

Wind SE & NE Clear & Cloudy 23o THUR. JAN. 9th, 1896

Still cold & raw. Chas Hammond brought us four grown chickens two of which we killed, as they escaped in handling them. Helles Robison shot them for us with his rifle. I went up to the store. Afternoon rode to Ashton & bought a surcingle for "Franke's" stable blanket. Mrs. Robison was in to borrow some potatoes. I am still feeling stiff and rhuematic in the mornings, but gradually become "suppled up" as the day wears on. Louis Huff (colored) came (after dark) and had a tooth extracted. "Gus"Hoskins came with him. "Moss" Love came for the school house keys, to get his skates. Edwd went next door.

Wind SE & S.W. Cloudy & Clearing Ther. 20 FRI. JAN. 10th, 1896

Cloudy and threatning all day until towards sunset, when it cleared off. I went up to the store & to the mill. Jno Ed Hill worked at the wood pile about 1/2 a day. He went up to Henderson's & brought down the balance of the small sized coal (175 lbs). Easton's people put a horse in our stable for the day.

Wind S.E. & N.W. Cloudy & Clearing Ther. 22 SAT. JAN. 11th, 1896

Still threatning snow in the morning, but cleared off in the afternoon. Chas T. Hill brought us 1/2 ton of nut coal which I helped him put in the cellar. Afternoon I rode over to prescribe for his infant son, and called at Eldon to see sister Beulah and home via "Osceola". Went up to the store towards evening. Willie & Fanny came before supper-time. Willie took Edward down to Ashton & to Sherwood before putting his horse away for the night.

Wind S.E. Cloudy. Ther. 28o SUN. JAN. 12th, 1896

It was clear and bright until afternoon when it clouded over, and again looks like snow or rain. Willie & Edwd went to the river. (Haviland's dam) skating & were gone until about 3 p.m. I went to meeting & heard an excellent sermon from Edwd Farquhar on the "negative & positive" commands of the scriptures Willie & Fanny went back to "Fairfield" before supper time. Edwd put in some window glass that the boys had broken at Sherwood School house Willie helping him. Many persons went skating on the river. The skating being unusually good.

Still raw & chilly. I felt quite unwell. Stiff & rhuematic. Afternoon I rode to Ashton on horseback. Went to the store both morning & afternoon for the mail. After school Edward went skating on Bentley's pond. Lizzie Scott called & left some nice apples & scrapple.
