Clear Ther. Saturday JAN 27th, 1894 N.W. Wind

Ground covered with snow about 2 inches. "John" came early and started to Rockville for Willie about 9-25. Chas Hill (of Remus) was here for advice & medicine for his wife. Mary Thomas (colored) who lives with Friend Hadasah Moore was also here with "tooth ache". I walked up to the mill for the papers. "John" got back bringing Willie with him about 1-45 p.m. I walked up to the "toll house" as a witness in a suit brought against J. T. Henderson "on a man named "Dorsey" who commenced digging a well for Henderson and failed to fulfil this contract "to furnish all the water required to run the mill". Dorsey did not appear & the case was postponed. Edwd went to "Cloverly" for his music lesson After supper Willie rode "Frank" up to Edwd Peirce's to stay until tomorrow morning. Edwd went to Sherwood to fix the fires.

Clear Ther. 16° Sunday 28th N.W. and NE Wind

This was the coldest morning we have had so far this winter Willie came home from E Peirce's in time for dinner, having called at Riverside on way home. Afternoon he took Dora to church at "Crow Town" Cousin Hallie Bentley came to the office for advice and medicine for their little boy "Morris". Edwd went down to Sherwood to make up the fires. Dora and Willie came home before dark.

Rain Ther. 33° Monday JAN 29th, 1894 Wind N.E.

Very disagreeable rainy morning with ground covered with sleet and ice. Willie took "Frank" horse to Fletcher Clark's shop and had his shoes "roughed all around". Chas Hill (of Remus) was here again for advice and medicine for his wife. After dinner W drove to E Peirces and brought Fanny home with him in time for supper. Morris Stabler called to pay me for extracting a tooth for him sometime ago. I walked up to Henderson's for the papers. Mrs. J T Moore called and left some magazines etc for Dora. It rained all day and snowed after dark until sometime in the night when the wind commenced blowing hard from W & NW.

Clear Ther 27° Tuesday 30th S.W. Wind

Clear and cold with strong wind from N.W. and S.W. Dora walked over to E. N. Bentley's to call before dinner. I walked up to the mill for the papers. Afternoon Mrs. Emma Schreiver was here to consult me professionally. Also "Alice N. Dickerson" the School Teacher at "Sharp St". Alice Peirce came in time for supper to spend the night with Dora and Fanny. After supper Dick Procter was here for a certificate of my attendance upon Charles Howard.

Clear Ther. 28° Wednesday JAN 31st 1894 Wind

Willie took Alice and Fanny Peirce in to phaeton leaving Fanny to call at Edwd Bentley's he took Alice home & called for Fanny on his return bringing her back here to dinner. Afternoon he took Fanny to Riverside to take tea and then to Edwd Pierce's where W will stay all night returning here tomorrow morning. I walked up to the mill and to Henderson's house for the papers, before dinner Miss Emma Schreiver called at the door to request Henderson and myself to call at the School house tomorrow morning to sign her "monthly report."

Ther. 33° Thursday, FEB 1st N.E. Wind

Willie came home about 11 o'clock this morning having called at Chas. G Porter's and paid him in full to date and took a receipt for the same. J. T. Henderson and I went to the public school house and signed the Teachers report. Miss M. Colt was here & I sent an order for silk elastic knee cap to Dr. E. L Washburn N Haven Conn: it went by the 2 p.m. mail. After dinner Geo. Johnson (of "Nick") was here for advice & medicine again. Just as we were done supper Luther Muncaster came to spend the night with Wille & we had some music in the evening.

Clear Ther. 25° FEB 2d, 1894 N.W. and S. Wind

This is a beautiful winter day, clear and frosty. Wille rode "Frank" up to Brighton and at 11-55 "John" took him and Dora to "Forest Glen". Willie on his way back to "Purcellville" Va: & Dora going with him as far as Washinton, where she will spend a few days with cousin Hannah Archer. I walked up to the Store and Shops & to the mill before dinner. The children took a "lunch" with them, not waiting for dinner "John" came back with the carriage about 6-15 p.m. having left Dora & Willie at "Forest Glen" in time for them to take the train for Washington. after getting his supper here "John" went to an exhibition of World's Fair pictures at "Sharp St" Alice Peirce called for Fanny's things

Cloudy & Rain Ther. 34 Saturday 3d Wind

Commenced raining at mid night last and had been disagreeable all day today. "Turner" from "Marden" was here before I was up this morning for advice and medicine for Miss Alice Tyson, who wrote a note to him. After dinner. I walked up to the mill & to Henderson's for the papers. Mrs Ent came to the office for advice & medicine for "Ent". It is fortunate that Dora & Willie got off yesterday instead of having to travel, in the rain today. After dark Edward went down to "Sherwood" to see after the fires. H recd a nice letter from "Nelly" in Philad'a.

Rain & Snow Ther. 34 Sunday FEB. 4th, 1894 W. Wind

Extremely disagreeable day. Rain, mud & snow. Benj: H Millers carriage "broke down" opposite the mill on way to meeting, his wife & daughter Rebecca came in whilst Edward helped Benj, hitch their horse to our carriage & they then went on to meeting. The ladies had no overshoes with them & as it was very wet & muddy could not well walk without great risk to their health. It was snowing fast but afterwards turned to rain & continued all day as disagreeable as well could be out of doors but we had a nice quiet day at home.

Clear Ther. 14° Monday 5th N.W. Wind

Clear & cold this morning. I felt badly having had a bad night's sleep & am very "Rheumatic" having taken some cold. Clifford Waters came before I was downstairs to get an "atomizer" for Hallie Bentley's children, one of whom has "croup" and the rest including Hallie have "measles" Benj H Miller brought our carriage home. Edith Hutton was here for a "certificate of health": intending to apply for a position in the Training School for Trained Nurses. I walked up to the store & P.O. & to the mill & Henderson's house for the papers. After supper I went over to Mrs Robinson's to see "Frank" who has been suffering with "touthache" since convalescent from "measles". John was here in the afternoon & found my monkey wrench, which had been lost for months.

Clear Ther. 26° Tuesday Feb. 6th, 1894 W. & S.W. Wind

Rather warmer this morning but still "frosty". "Turner" was here before I was downstairs for more medicine for Miss Alice Tyson. The "Farmer's Convention" holds its annual meeting today at the Lyceum, using our school house as a "banquet hall". I am suffering from a severe cold & must be careful not to expose myself more than necessary. I walked over to the Lyceum to Farmers Convention and got dinner there. Dora came home in the afternoon Stage. Frank Robison came in & had a tooth extracted. I walked up to the store. Recd "knee cap" by mail from New Haven Conn: After supper Mrs Robison came in for some "cough mixture" for "Phil" & some Bromo Celerine for Bessie. E went down to Sherwood to attend to the fires.

"Haizy" & Cloudy Ther. Wednesday 7th S.E.Wind

I am feeling the "effects of the cold" I have taken & have some cough, sore throat & a tight feeling in my chest. Went in to see "Phil" who has measles. Afternoon Miss "Lula" Nesbit was buried at "Woodside" Cemetery; she died in Balto: after an operation of some kind, having been an invalid for a long time: she was 28 years of age, a grand daughter of Elisha John Hall, late of "Longwood" near Brookeville, where her parents reside. After supper I walked up to the store with Edwd: Mrs Robison came in for advice for "Phil". "Turner" was here with a note from Beatrix Tyson asking for more advice & med: for Alice.

Cloudy & "Haizy" Ther. 37° Saturday Feb. 8th 1894 S.E. Wind

Much warmer & damp. Mrs Robison came in for me to go & see "Phil" before I was up. I went over & found him a very sick boy. I also went in to see Frank Cook for the first time since he was sick & up to Henderson's for the papers. Lucy Stabler called to see Dora who had just returned from a call at Edwd Bentley's, where they are all sick with measles. The sad news of the death of Friend Edith Bentley came by telegraph, she having died about 7 o 'clk this a.m. at Edwd Needle's in Philad'a. It is a great shock to her many friends, & her loss will be felt throughout the neighborhood. Bro: Chas called before dinner. F. Cook's wife came for med: for her infant son. Hallie Bentley sent "Frank Fuller" to our house to stay until after the funeral of Edith Bentley.

Cloudy & Rain Ther. 36° Friday 9th SE Wind

Alice Dickerson (school teacher) was here & had a tooth extracted. I walked over to see Hallie Bentley. "John" came after me with the phaeton. I loaned him "Frank" to bring some things from Marriott's to his house. Bro Chas & Sister Lizzie called, also William J Parker who came with his wife & Helen B Lea, from Boston to the funeral of Edith Bentley which will be on Sunday afternoon. "John" came back about dark & got his supper here "Turner" came for more medicine for Alice Tyson I gave him a prescription which he took to Ashton.

Clear Ther. 37° Saturday, Feb 10th, 1894. N.W. Wind.

Beautiful day (over-head) but muddy & disagreeable underfoot. "John" came to breakfast & drove me down to Edwd Bentley's. I also called at "Bloomfield" to see Anna Parker & Helen B. Lea. Miss Mary Colt was here & got the "silk elastic knee cap " or bandage I sent for, for her. Afternoon "Long Mary" Hill sent her grandchild, ("Osborne") to me for advice & for a scrofulous affection, her daughter "Sarah" brought the child to the office. Dora & Edwd drove over to Homewood in the phaeton, taking Frank Fuller with them. "John" went home after taking me to E. Bentley's & cleaning out the stables etc. before dinner. Towards night I went up to the village after Frank Fuller who was watching a fight between some rowdies in Mary Gilpin's field.

Clear Ther 35° Sunday 11th N.W. Wind.

Another beautiful day (over head). Chas E Bond called for advice & medicine for Jas W Johnson's little daughter. I walked over to Edwd Bentley's to see "Hallie" & the children again. Bro R came before meeting & put his horse in stable staid with us to dinner, & he & I with Edwd & Frank Fuller walked over to the burial of Edith Bentley at the meeting house. Dora walked down to "Bloomfield" to the gathering "at the house" & rode to the meeting house with Miss Mary Colt. The funeral was a very large one, as might have been expected. Bro R went home after the funeral. Edwd went down to "Sherwood" and made up the fires before supper.

Snow & Sleet & Rain Ther. 30° Monday Feb. 12th, 1894 N.E. Wind

Very stormy day, commenced snowing early this morning, & continued either snowing (very fine) or changing to hail & sleet in the middle of the day Emeline Hopkins was here for advice & medicine before I was down stairs this a.m. Gilbert Smith Jr. called & spent an hour or two with me before dinner. This is by far the most stormy winter day we have had so far.

Clear Ther. 30 Tuesday 13th N.W. Wind

The ground barely covered with snow & sleet but three sleighs passed our house. Bro Chad called & left some "oyster plants without any of us seeing him I walked up to the shops after dinner. "John" came & applied turpentine to "Frank" horse's throat, he having a sort of "quinsey" sore throat. he also cut some wood at woodpile & got his supper here I mended Dora's trunk. After supper Joseph Bond Jr. was here for advice & medicine for himself.

Cloudy Ther. 21 Wednesday Feb. 14th,1894 S.E & N.E. Wind

Cold & Raw, looks & feels like more snow. I walked up to the store & shops before dinner. Alice & Fanny Peirce & Edith Rummer came to spend the day. Afternoon I walked to Ashton. Edward did not attend. school afternoon Miss Hannum being absent: he went down & attended to the fire about 4 o'clk. The girls left here about 4 p.m. they drove Miss M. Colt's horse & dayton, the horse was put in our stable whilst they were here. It commenced snowing about dusk & continued up to bedtime.

Cloudy & Clearing Ther. 28° Thursday 15th N.W. Wind

Everything covered with sleet & snow this morning. Sleighs have been passing here all day. "John" came before dinner time & rode "Frank" to Ashton to try to see Dr Tatum (veternary surgeon). Afternoon I walked up to the mill. Uncle Henson was here to see me. Alf bell was also here for advice & medicine for himself. After supper Mrs Robinson came in for some yeast & sugar. Edward went to a lecture at the Lyceum subject "Alaska," illustrated by stereoptican views.
