Ther. 30° Monday Jan. 1^st Wind

Rather colder this morning and "feels like
snow" John and Green Howard's boy brought
us a 1 horse cart load of straw & took a load
of manure to pay for it. Thomas or "Tom"
Birch (a colored man from Warwick Miller's)
was here for advice and medicine. I mended
the horse blanket & did some cleaning up at
the stable. Fanny Peirce brought Dora
home towards evening. I walked
up to the mill for the papers.
Received a letter from Frederic Tyson and a
calender (beautifully illustrated) from
sister Mary.

Ther. 30° Tuesday 2d Wind

Edward commenced going to school
again at "Sherwood" John came between
10 & 11 o'clk to see about getting me some
hay to last until Jno Bentley can haul the load.
Willie engaged from him before he left for Va:
John borrowed Jos. Stabler's one horse wagon
& with "Frank" to it went to F. Downey's and
brought us $2.00 worth of hay. I wrote to
F Tyson . Sent by the 2 o'clk p.m. mail.
I helped "John" put the hay (250 lbs)
into the mow. Dora walked to "Ingleside"
& to "The Cottage" to call. Philip
Stabler's daughter "Jennie" called to
see Dora during her absence. After
supper Dora went with Edwd to the School House at
"Sherwood" to see the furnace fire E having
undertaken to attend to it for his tuition.
Bro Chas called for a short time, having
been at the insurance office.
