28 Clear & Cloudy NE DECEMBER, FRIDAY 2d 1887.

I drove to Avalon & got part of a set of double harness from Mary Gilpin called to see Mrs Oldfield Richd Retzer & I worked at repairing & fixing up the harness. I took my double lines up to Oldfield to have new bucket put on them Afternoon Dr R. Brooke called to see me: I drove to Ashton for some groceries etc. & in the evening we mended harness etc. I have a bad "head ache"

31o Clear. S.W. DECEMBER, SATURDAY 3d 1887.

Willie came home at about 11.o'clock and we got him off to meet Charley at "Silver Spring" leaving here at 12-25 driving Fritz & the mare to the buggy, they got home at 5.o'clock After supper C & W walked up to the store for tobacco etc. We had some music in the evening.

43o Cloudy S.E. DECEMBER 4th 1887.

After changing the shafts for the pole on the buggy, & fixing one of the "clips" Charley took his sister (driving the mare) to Elton expecting to dine there and came to Riverside to tea & home after the moon rose. Willie took a ride on the "bicycle": the rest of us spent a quiet day at home, without any callers for a wonder. Charley & Dora came home anbout mid night having dined at Richd Griffith's they did not get to Riverside but came home from Elton.

37o Cloudy & Clearing N.W. DECEMBER, MONDAY 5th 1887.

It rained last night after midnight and continued cloudy until 10'oclk this am when it cleared off with strong wind from N.W. Charley & Willie drove the mare over to Riverside to see his uncle Richard on business, from there they started for "Laurel", but they overtook Ellicotts carriage on the "Manor" and Willie returned Charley going on in Mrs Ellicotts carriage on his way back to Balto: After dinner W rode the mare to Elton again.

30 Clear. N.W. DECEMBER, TUESDAY 6th 1887.

Jehu Bowens little girl Marth brought a note from her sister Ruth Ann with $1.00 from Mary. Martha Pumphrey also here for advice & medicine. I drove down to see Jno Cook Richd Retzer going with me. Mrs Jack Johnson was here for advice etc. Towards evening I drove to Ashton & bought new shafts, single tree, & cross bar for the buggy & took them up to Wm Oldfield's shop to have them fitted togather. I also bought new "clips" or shaft boxes & irons for the attachment of the shafts to the axle. Mary E Gilpin called to see Dora and dusk.

29o Cloudy & Clearing N.E. DECEMBER, WEDNESDAY 7th 1887.

Ground frozen hard this morning. Dr Brooke called. After lunch I drove down to Robt Blair's & from there to Sharon where I stopped and had a talk with J P Stabler about "patents" & machinery from there drove to "Marden" & made a call leaving some English papers they had loaned me, from there home where I found Mary Bowen waiting to have a tooth drawn which I soon did for her. Laura Hill was also here for advice & prescription for her son "Josiah" Emma Davi's called whist I was absent & paid $1.oo she owed me.

37o Cloudy & Clearing Variable DECEMBER, THURSDAY 8th 1887.

Cloudy early this morning but cleared off during the day. Afternoon Friend Lydia Thomas was here & had a tooth extracted, Mrs Saml Wetherald coming with her. I went up to the shops & had the luck to find my new buggy shafts put togather and ready for ironing. I brought them home with me. They are putting the weather boarding on the new "garner" they are building on the lot next to us between here & the mill It obstructs our view up the road very much & is quite unsightly. Jno W Johnson "Shipley" came (after I had retired) to have me look over some pension papers for him.

30o Clear & Cloudy DECEMBER, FRIDAY 9th 1887.

Heavy white frost this morning. Robt Blair sent my shoe home (mended). I drove to Ashton & took the new shafts for the buggy down to Jas Marlows shop & left them there. Martha A Wright was here for advice & medicine. Rodney Buswell's little boy "Harvy" was her to have "tooth ache " cured. Emma Jane Davi's brought a receipt Book from M L Robert's for me to copy a prescription from it to be sent to Philada

40 Rainy. SE & N.E DECEMBER, SATURDAY 10th 1887.

Rained all through last night & continued at intervals all day to day I drove to Ashton for some medicine etc. (Sodae Salicylate) Afternoon Remus Hill Jr. called for medicine for Martha Ann Wright from "Avalon". It has been an extremely dull, dark, & dreary day "muggy & close" with the frost all but of the ground every where & very muddy. John W Johnson came in the evening to get a letter I had written for him to Dr Peter R. House Avoca N.Y. formerly Asst Surg of the Regt; in which John served.

41 Clear & Cloudy. S.W. DECEMBER, SUNDAY 11. 1887.

Bro: R called on his way to meeting. Frank Fairall called with a message from Ernest saying Willie could not come home to day.
