January 32° Clear N.W. 1880 Thursday 1st 1st Beautiful winter morning with which to commence the New year. Moab White called for advice & I went to Sam Cole's on horse back, taking Dora with me. Went to Wm S Bonds to see servant and vaccinate their niece. After tea Charley went to "Rockland" to the "musical" Roads extremely muddy & bad off of the turnpikeWillie went to Ashton & spent afternoon with Edwd: Chalfant. Charley got home about mid night.

35o Cloudy & Rain & Sleet N.E. Friday 2d Disagreeable dark morningWent to B Rush Robert's. Moab White called. Afternoon I went to Riverside taking Bro Chas with me leaving his horse here for son Charley to ride over after tea. Spent the evening there very pleasantly practicing some of the old pieces. Bro C & I used to play years ago. I called at "Homewood" in my drive before dinner. Had a dark drive home where we arrived at about 11 o'clock. Edwd Chalfant here to spend the night with Willie.

36° Cloudy. S.E. January Saturday 3d. 1880

3d. E. Chalfant here to breakfast. Mrs Jus: Henerson here & had a tooth extracted. Eliza Thomas here for advice & treatment for "sore throat." Jno Tasker here & paid something on his account. Moab White in for advice &c. E. Chalfant spent the day with Willie. I walked up to the store after supper.

44° Clear N.W. 4th Sunday 4th

Beautiful day. Soft and "spring like." Went to B Rush Robert's and "Fulford." Charley with me. Afternoon Charley took his sister a drive in the light buggy. Ernest here to tea. He & Charley went to Mrs Snowden's to take some of the young ladies to the "Bible Class" at the "Lyceum." Dora & Willie walked over. B Rush Roberts called at the gate in his carriage. Moab White here for advice & medicine.

37° Cloudy & Drizzle E January Monday 5th 1880

Took a violent cold last night. Was called up before day light to go and attend Robt Campbell's wife in confinement in Howard Co[unty]. Took "Boston" with me & went to Wm S Bouds before coming home. Afternoon went to Sam Golub to see his wife's sister. Friend Caleb Stabler called. Walked up to the store after tea. It was Exceedingly dark. Charley staid at home all the Evening.

Cloudy Rain & "Drizzle" N.E. 37° Tuesday 6th Extremeely disagreeable day. Sent by Stage driver to Laurel for medicines. Feel quite unwell from the effects of a "bad cold." Harriet also feeling miserable having taken some medicine. Charley came down to dinner Earlier than usual on account of a meeting of the "Benevolent Aid Society" this afternoon. Richd. Adsdison called for medicine &c. Afternoon went to B Rush Roberts. Harriet quite indisposed all day. Could not sit at the table at either meal. Charley went to North Fulford in the evening. very dark.

38º Cloudy Drizzle E. January - Wednesday 7th 1880

Another disagreeable day. Harriet much better & about" again as usual. Kate & Gilpin Stabler here. Mrs C B Scott sent me 2 barrels of corn (on the cob). Afternoon I went to Mr. J. Scofield's in light buggy & took Willie with me, and walked to see B Rush Roberts - Was called up after going to bed to go to prescribe for Owen Hardy's wife on Edwd P Thoma's place. Had a dark ride & I fear increased my cold. Charley went on horseback to Henry Chandler's to a dancing party, did not get home until midnight.

40 Cloudy + Clearing W & NW Thursday 8th

Went to Owen Hardy's - Edwd B Chalfant here for advice + med: Sister Beulah here & spent part of the afternoon. Sun shone out beautifully afternoon, and I sincerely hope we may have some pleasant winter weather again.

Cloudy. Drizzle& Fog - N.E 40º January - Friday 9th 1880 Another dull dark damp & disagreeable day - Butcher Hopkins here again with beef -Sam Cole here for medicine for his wife's sister. Mary Ellicott here for advice as to her throat. Wrote to Dumdas Dick & Co: Rain several times during the day, and a kind of "drizzle" between times: disagreeable at all times.

Clear W. 40º Saturday 10th

Drove to "Turners" in Mechanic'sville & left boiler for repairs. Went to B Rush Robert's - "Uncle Henson" here for advice & medicine. Sarah Stabler & her daughter Mary Anna here for a social call. Dora rode to Fulford on horseback - Frank Snowden took tea here - Louis Scofield here to play with Willie -
