My Dear Cornelia
We have had a rather [quiet?] [?] [?] [?] are to days work through the [?] who are having a battle royal over a Primary Election law which went to its second reading to day. We found lots of snow in Annapolis and it is sleet now and a mighty sober man It takes to preserve his [character?] I fell down this evening when I stepped out of the building to go home to dress to go to [Carval?] Hall to dinner. This building is hot & I never thought of it being anything but snow the pavements were like Ice & all of us took the middle of the road Mr. Robert HIlton who came down from Rockville for the night [wanted?] some of us to go to Corval Hall to dinner with him [insertion - next evening?] which I did & we had a very enjoyable talk & dinner: lots of interesting People here & we are

radually getting acquainted with them. We are going to have a big fight this am: Will thee please [see?] this Jewel is Rougher at [Ashton?] if [?] [did?] not [do?] it. We seem to have very little time as there is a constant stream of men who stop to talk So I have been a great while writing this letter - & then Last night I was sure I would have time but [Justin?] Lee had us in his room for hours consulting as to the best course for us in this fight & to nominate the right men to bring down here to do this work I got that lawman[?] [?] Howse of [Brighton?] a job & Albert [Malow?] (half the time each) It will pay them $250___a [year?] Well I have several letters to write so must stop I [seree?] do[?] [?] [thy?] Husband John C Bentley
